10 Best Michigan Dispensaries Near Illinois Worth the Drive

Best Michigan dispensaries near Illinois featuring cannabis products from Elevated Exotics

If you’re coming from Illinois, you don’t have to venture far into Michigan to find a great dispensary. New Buffalo has become the obvious first stop, with more than a dozen dispensaries clustered just across the state line and enough competition that you could easily spend the whole trip comparing menus, deals, and deli counters.

But with so many shops packed into the same area, the closest dispensary isn’t necessarily the best one for you. We compared Michigan dispensaries near the Illinois border based on customer reviews, product selection, value, and the overall shopping experience to narrow down the stops worth making.

Best Michigan Dispensaries Near Illinois at a Glance

10 Best Michigan Dispensaries Near the Illinois Border

New Buffalo dominates our list, and for good reason. These are 10 of the best Michigan dispensaries to check out near the Illinois border.

1. Elevated Exotics – New Buffalo

Address: 13899 Grand Ave, New Buffalo, MI 49117
Phone: (269) 612-9420
Google rating: 5.0 stars (1,924 reviews)
Hours: 9 a.m. to 8:45 p.m. daily
Payment: Cash and debit; ATM on-site
Parking: Free, accessible parking
Ordering: Online ordering, in-store pickup, and curbside pickup

Elevated Exotics is one of the newer additions to New Buffalo’s increasingly crowded dispensary scene, but it’s already getting attention from shoppers making the trip from Illinois. The menu is huge, with more than 2,400 products currently listed, but there are some more interesting finds mixed in with the usual carts, edibles and prepacked flower. You’ll find flower from Michigan growers like Pro Gro and Exotic Matter, plus concentrates from Ice Kream Hash Co. and deli-style rosin that you can buy by weight.

The pricing is another reason we’d put Elevated on the list. First-time shoppers currently get up to 40% off eligible products, and one recent Illinois shopper said the regular prices still beat a fair share of other New Buffalo dispensaries even without that discount. Recent Reddit shoppers have also praised the flower selection, with Lost Leaf’s Titty Sprinkles singled out as some of the best flower one shopper had picked up in New Buffalo.

Flower shoppers have plenty to dig through beyond the usual big-name brands, too, including smaller Michigan growers and both prepacked and deli-style options. The concentrate selection is similarly deep, with rosin, live resin, and other extracts from Michigan producers like Ice Kream Hash Co. If you’re making the drive from Illinois, we’d browse the menu ahead of time. There are enough products here that it’s easy to miss something interesting if you only shop the front-page deals.

2. King of Budz – New Buffalo

Address: 19253 Harbor Country Dr, New Buffalo, MI 49117
Phone: (269) 281-8006
Google rating: 4.7 stars (5,257 reviews)
Hours: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily
Payment: Cash, debit, and pay by bank; ATM on-site
Parking: Free on-site parking
Ordering: Online ordering, express in-store pickup, and curbside pickup

If you like to see and smell your flower before committing to an ounce, King of Budz is an easy one to put on the list. Its massive deli bar keeps more than 100 strains in rotation, with budtenders weighing your pick in front of you instead of handing over a sealed package. The selection stretches from budget ounces to top-shelf flower, and the current menu includes Michigan names like Pro Gro, Local Grove, Hytek, and Growing Pains.

KOB goes big on the rest of its menu, too. There are thousands of products spanning concentrates, carts, edibles, pre-rolls, and more, plus a frankly dizzying number of rotating multi-buy deals. Illinois shoppers regularly call out the selection, deli flower, and prices, and the New Buffalo location currently offers a free goodie bag for first-time customers rather than the percentage-off deal you’ll find at some neighboring dispensaries.

One thing to know before you go: KOB can get busy. It’s right off I-94 at Exit 1 and draws plenty of out-of-state traffic, so we’d order ahead if you’re mainly chasing a deal or already know what you want. If the deli flower is the reason you’re stopping, though, we’d make time to shop inside.

3. Cannabis Club – New Buffalo

Address: 19650 M-239, New Buffalo, MI 49117
Phone: (269) 815-4999
Google rating: 4.9 stars (3,671 reviews)
Hours: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily
Payment: Cash and debit; ATM on-site
Parking: Free on-site parking
Ordering: Online ordering, in-store pickup, and curbside pickup

Cannabis Club is one to check when stretching your budget is the priority. Deals change, but the New Buffalo shop currently takes 35% off deli flower every day and price matches competitors. The weekly specials pile on from there, with freebies, BOGOs, happy hours, and other rotating promotions. Illinois shoppers have taken notice, too: Cannabis Club regularly comes up in Reddit discussions about where to find first-time discounts and good deals in New Buffalo.

There’s no shortage of stuff to spend those savings on. The current menu has more than 3,000 products across flower, concentrates, vapes, edibles, pre-rolls, and drinks, with everything from inexpensive everyday options to flower from Michigan growers like Pro Gro. Deli flower is particularly worth browsing since you can shop by tier and amount rather than being locked into prepacked eighths.

We’d check the day’s specials before ordering rather than assuming yesterday’s deal still applies. Cannabis Club runs so many overlapping promotions that the best value can depend on when you visit and what you’re buying. Reviews also repeatedly give the budtenders credit for helping shoppers sort through the huge menu and figure out which discounts make the most sense.

4. Bloomery Cannabis – New Buffalo

Address: 11429 O’Brien Ct, New Buffalo, MI 49117
Phone: (269) 546-0546
Google rating: 4.9 stars (16,088 reviews)
Hours: 9 a.m. to 8:45 p.m. daily
Payment: Cash and PIN debit; ATM on-site
Parking: Free on-site parking
Ordering: Online ordering, in-store pickup, and curbside pickup

Bloomery is another spot where we’d spend some time at the deli counter. There’s plenty of prepacked flower, but the deli menu gives you a closer look (and smell) before you buy. Reddit shoppers have pointed to Freshy Fine, Exotic Matter, FAVRD, and Tip Top Crop as brands worth checking out here, so there’s a lot more to dig through than bargain ounces.

And there are plenty of bargains. Bloomery runs a ton of rotating specials, plus price matching, so we’d pull up the deals page before paying full price for anything. One Reddit shopper joked that it seemed like half the store was on sale, which isn’t a bad problem to have when you’re stocking up.

Fair warning: Bloomery can get packed. One Illinois shopper counted around 18 registers going during a busy visit, though, and said the line moved surprisingly fast. That’s good news if you’re trying to squeeze a couple of New Buffalo stops into the same trip.

5. The Refinery – New Buffalo

Address: 19281 US-12, New Buffalo, MI 49117
Phone: (269) 222-5111
Google rating: 4.9 stars (4,756 reviews)
Hours: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily
Payment: Cash and debit; ATM on-site
Parking: Free on-site parking
Ordering: Online ordering and in-store pickup

The Refinery is a good one-stop shop if you don’t want to bounce around New Buffalo hunting down Michigan brands. Its flower selection includes Growing Pains, Hytek, Freshy Fine, and other names that come up again and again among Michigan shoppers. One out-of-state customer left with Growing Pains’ Los Muertos and Permanent Marker, Freshy Fine’s Sun Cake, Voyage Bloom’s Lemon Rizz, Ice Kream Hash Co. hash holes, and a pile of edibles and was pretty thrilled with how much the first-time deals cut down on the final total.

We’d spend some time looking at the deli menu, too. A recent shopper gave the Tangie smalls good marks, while another specifically stopped at The Refinery for its house live resin deal and liked the Cap Junky enough to call it out afterward. Concentrate shoppers have also made the trip here for brands like Peachy and Wizard of Roz.

The deals are worth checking before you go since they rotate, and The Refinery offers mix-and-match bundles across much of the menu. Recent shoppers still regularly put it among New Buffalo’s better stops, with one calling it an easy one-stop shop for top brands. That’s pretty much where we land on it, too.

6. Information Entropy – New Buffalo

Address: 18350 US-12, New Buffalo, MI 49117
Phone: (269) 231-5075
Google rating: 4.9 stars (1,635 reviews)
Hours: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily
Payment: Cash only; ATM on-site
Parking: Free on-site parking
Ordering: Online ordering and curbside pickup

Information Entropy is where we’d go when quality matters more than finding the absolute cheapest ounce in New Buffalo. IE grows and processes its own cannabis, and its house flower and rosin have built quite a following. One Illinois shopper called IE one of the best Michigan has to offer after picking up its Dragonfruit flower and rosin, while another came away raving about the flower, rosin, and the fact that you could smell the jarred flower before buying.

Rosin is a particularly good reason to stop. IE makes its own single-source live hash rosin, and the current menu includes five-gram jars alongside one-gram options. Shoppers also have plenty of other Michigan producers to dig through, so you aren’t limited to the house stuff if you’re looking for something specific.

Don’t expect a giant percentage-off deal for your first visit. New customers currently get a 200-milligram IE hash rosin gummy and a 200-milligram IE RSO gummy instead. We’d also bring cash rather than relying on a card; Information Entropy is cash-only, although there’s an ATM inside. For an Illinois shopper who’s already making the drive for better Michigan flower or rosin, this is one we’d have a hard time skipping.

7. Border Buds – New Buffalo

Address: 19382 M-239, New Buffalo, MI 49117
Phone: (269) 546-0008
Google rating: 4.9 stars (1,779 reviews)
Hours: 9 a.m. to 8:45 p.m. daily
Payment: Cash or pay by bank; ATM on-site
Parking: Free on-site parking
Ordering: Online ordering, in-store pickup, and curbside pickup

Border Buds is hard to miss if you’re coming up from Illinois. It’s right off Exit 1, and once you’re inside, there’s a big deli flower selection to sniff your way through. Prices can be pretty competitive, too. One Illinois shopper comparing New Buffalo deli flower found the same tier selling for $160 here versus $185 at another shop.

Then there are the deals. Border Buds currently takes 30% off storewide, while first-timers get 40% off their first purchase and another 40% coupon for visit No. 2 with a $25 minimum spend. The weekly specials get a little wild from there: Friday brings a free eighth with a $25 purchase, while other days have discounts on everything from concentrates to shake.

We would check the harvest date before loading up on discounted deli flower, though. One Illinois shopper learned that the hard way after getting home and finding several strains harvested roughly a year earlier. That’s one person’s experience, not a reason to write off the whole store, but it’s a good reminder not to let a 30% or 40% off sign be the only factor you consider.

8. Vibe – New Buffalo

Address: 19689 US-12, New Buffalo, MI 49117
Phone: (269) 612-4420
Google rating: 4.6 stars (2,209 reviews)
Hours: 9 a.m. to 8:45 p.m. daily
Payment: Cash, debit, and Dutchie Pay; ATM on-site
Parking: Free on-site parking
Ordering: Online ordering, in-store pickup, and curbside pickup

Vibe is another one we’d shop in person if flower is a priority. There’s deli-style flower alongside the prepacked stuff, and one shopper who stocked up on several strains here had just one complaint: it took a while to weigh and bag everything they picked. That’s not the worst problem to have when you want to look at a bunch of flower before deciding what you’ll bring home.

Prices are another reason to take a look. Vibe runs daily rotating specials and has a price-beat policy, so it’s worth comparing anything you’ve already spotted elsewhere in New Buffalo. The live menu typically has hundreds of products across flower, concentrates, vapes, edibles, and pre-rolls, rather than leaning especially hard into any one category.

First-timers get a free product with purchase rather than a big percentage-off discount. We’d also double-check that any deal you’re expecting actually makes it onto the receipt. Most shopper feedback around the prices is positive, but there are a few complaints from customers who thought a promotion wasn’t applied correctly. With that out of the way, Vibe is an easy stop right off US-12, especially if you’d rather browse the deli counter than gamble on a prepacked ounce.

9. PUFF – New Buffalo

Address: 11300 Holiday Dr, New Buffalo, MI 49117
Phone: (269) 222-0420
Google rating: 4.9 stars (2,587 reviews)
Hours: 9 a.m. to 8:45 p.m. daily
Payment: Cash and debit; ATM on-site
Parking: Free on-site parking
Ordering: Online ordering, in-store pickup, and curbside pickup

PUFF hasn’t been in New Buffalo as long as some of the other shops on this list. It opened in May 2025, but shoppers caught on pretty quickly. The menu is huge, with flower, concentrates, vapes, edibles, pre-rolls, and plenty of Michigan brands to sort through. One recent shopper paired a stop at Information Entropy with PUFF and used the first-time discount to stock up on 710 Labs pens.

PUFF currently takes 30% off for new customers, and Illinois shoppers continue to bring up its deals when swapping New Buffalo recommendations. We’d ask a budtender what’s actually worth grabbing instead of chasing every sale, though. That’s one area where PUFF gets especially good marks: recent reviews repeatedly mention staff taking the time to compare products, explain the deals, and help people stretch their budget.

It’s also an easy stop if you don’t want to wander far off I-94. PUFF sits by the Holiday Inn Express with plenty of parking, and you can order ahead for curbside or in-store pickup. The store can get slammed during busy periods, so we’d use one of those options if you already know what you’re after.

10. JARS – New Buffalo

Address: 19799 US-12, New Buffalo, MI 49117
Phone: (269) 924-0770
Google rating: 4.9 stars (12,856 reviews)
Hours: 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. daily
Payment: Cash and debit; ATM on-site
Parking: Free on-site parking
Ordering: Online ordering, in-store pickup, and curbside pickup

JARS is one we’d check when we’re buying a little bit of everything. The menu is huge, but the mix-and-match deals are where it gets interesting. Carts, pre-rolls, concentrates, edibles, and flower regularly get bundled into different price tiers, which makes it easy to stock up without buying 10 of the exact same thing.

The flower menu regularly includes Michigan growers like Growing Pains, Hytek, LocalGrove, Peninsula Gardens, and Pressure Pack. One Illinois shopper came here for Growing Pains’ Permanent Marker and Orange Crush, while another loaded up on three ounces, 17 infused pre-rolls, a cart, and a couple of freebies for around $250. The latter readily admitted the budget flower was more about quantity than quality, which is worth keeping in mind when those ounce deals start looking tempting.

JARS also price matches dispensaries within 50 miles, so we’d pull up a competitor’s menu if we spotted the same product cheaper elsewhere. Reviews generally give the US-12 location good marks for its budtenders and prices, although some shoppers say it can get hectic when it’s busy. With this much stuff on the menu, we’d probably order ahead unless we felt like doing some serious browsing.

How We Chose the Best Michigan Dispensaries Near Illinois

We looked beyond which dispensaries are simply closest to the Illinois border. To narrow down our picks, we considered:

  • Location: We prioritized dispensaries in Southwest Michigan that are convenient for shoppers coming from Chicago and northern Illinois.
  • Customer reviews: We looked for consistently strong ratings and recurring feedback about service, quality, and the overall experience.
  • Product selection: We considered the variety of flower, concentrates, vapes, edibles, and other cannabis products available.
  • Prices and deals: We compared overall value and recurring promotions rather than relying on a single daily special.
  • Shopping experience: We considered knowledgeable budtenders, efficient service, online ordering, and other features that make a dispensary worth the trip.
  • Local reputation: We also looked at recommendations and experiences shared by Michigan and Illinois cannabis shoppers.

Live Resin vs. Distillate Vape Carts: What’s the Difference?

“Live resin and distillate vape carts products”.

Vape carts and disposable vapes are popular across Michigan for good reason, but many consumers get confused when shopping for them. Between live resin carts, distillate carts, and even live rosin carts, there are plenty of options to choose from.

One of the most common questions we hear at Elevated Exotics is the difference between live resin and distillate. While live resin preserves more of the plant’s natural terpenes and cannabinoids, distillate is primarily focused on THC potency.

Neither option is universally better. The right choice for you depends on what matters most to you, whether that’s flavor, effects, potency, or price. That’s why we’ve put together this guide comparing live resin and. distillate vape carts.

Keep reading to learn how they differ in flavor, potency, effects, and cost so you can decide which option best fits your preferences.

Live Resin vs. Distillate Vape Carts: Quick Comparison

What Is a Live Resin Cart?

A live resin cart is a 510-threaded cartridge or disposable vape that contains live resin, a cannabis concentrate made using a solvent-based extraction process.

The main distinction is the word  “live.” Most cannabis flower is dried and cured after harvest to improve shelf stability and longevity. Live resin products are different. Instead of going through the drying and curing process, the cannabis is harvested and immediately frozen.

Freezing the flower right after harvest helps lock in compounds that are often lost during drying and curing. The result is a vape cart with a more strain-specific flavor and aroma.

To create live resin, manufacturers use solvents such as butane, ethanol, or CO? to extract the resin-rich trichomes from the plant. The solvent is then removed, leaving behind a terpene-rich concentrate that can be used in vape carts and other cannabis products.

Because more of the plant’s original compounds are preserved, live resin carts tend to deliver a more strain-specific and cannabis-forward experience than many distillate carts. You can see this in products like the Legit Labs live resin carts available at Elevated Exotics. Because they’re made from fresh frozen cannabis, they retain more of the flavor and aroma that made the original strain unique.

Live resin isn’t just about THC. Because more of the plant’s original compounds are preserved, the final product more closely reflects the characteristics of the flower it came from.

That extra processing and higher-quality source material typically make live resin carts more expensive than distillate carts. For many consumers, however, the added flavor, aroma, and strain-specific experience make the higher price worthwhile.

What Is a Distillate Cart?

A distillate cart is a 510-threaded cartridge or disposable vape that contains cannabis distillate, a highly refined cannabis extract known for its high THC content.

Like live resin, distillate is produced using a solvent-based extraction process. The difference lies in the source material. While live resin is made from fresh frozen cannabis, distillate is typically made from dried and cured flower or other plant material, including trim.

Distillate takes a different approach. Rather than preserving the plant’s original mix of cannabinoids and terpenes, the extraction process focuses on isolating THC.

Because many terpenes are removed during refinement, manufacturers often add cannabis-derived or botanical terpenes back into the final product to create specific flavors and aromas. As a result, distillate carts often feature sweeter, fruitier, or more flavor-forward profiles than live resin.

Flavor isn’t the only thing that changes. Distillate puts THC front and center, while live resin retains more of the cannabinoids and terpenes found in the original flower.

The extraction process and source material also make distillate one of the most affordable vape options on the market. That’s one reason products like the Drip and Crude Boy vape carts available at Elevated Exotics are popular for those looking for value and potency, with options starting around $9 per gram.

Another advantage is discretion. Compared to live resin, distillate vapor often has a lighter, sweeter aroma that many consumers find less noticeable.

Live Resin vs. Distillate: Key Differences

Next, let’s take a closer look at the key differences between live resin and distillate carts.

Flavor

The biggest difference between live resin and distillate comes down to the source material, terpenes, and how they’re preserved. When cannabis flower is dried and cured, like the material typically used for distillate, some terpenes naturally degrade.

Live resin starts with fresh frozen cannabis, helping preserve more of those terpenes from the start. The extraction process is also designed to retain more of the plant’s original flavor and aroma.

For example, a live resin vape cart may taste more like the Granddaddy Purple strain you’re familiar with. A Granddaddy Purple distillate cart, on the other hand, may taste more grape-forward or floral as it attempts to recreate the strain’s flavor with added terpenes.

This is one of the main reasons many cannabis enthusiasts choose live resin over distillate when flavor is the top priority.

THC Potency

The live resin extraction process is designed to preserve the plant’s cannabinoids and terpenes, not just THC.

As a result, live resin carts often vary in potency from 65% to 80% THC, while also retaining terpenes and other cannabinoids found in the original flower, such as CBD, CBG, CBN, etc.

On the other hand, distillate carts often contain 90% to 99% THC. The extraction process is designed to isolate and concentrate THC, resulting in a much higher potency.

Effects

Of course, it’s not just THC that shapes the experience. When consuming traditional flower, you’re experiencing the plant’s terpenes and other cannabinoids. Because of this, the effects of flower may feel more nuanced than a distillate cart that’s primarily focused on THC.

This is often attributed to the entourage effect, a phenomenon that suggests cannabinoids and terpenes may amplify one another’s effects when consumed together.

As a result, you may find that a live resin cart delivers a more well-rounded experience despite typically containing less THC than a distillate cart.

Price

Because of this nuanced experience and the complexity of the fresh frozen flower extraction process, live resin carts typically cost more. This reflects the additional preparation required and the effort involved in preserving the plant’s natural terpene and cannabinoid profile.

On the other hand, distillate carts are often more affordable and widely available. They don’t require fresh frozen material and can be made using a broader range of plant material, including trim.

Smell/Discretion

Since live resin is designed to preserve more of the plant’s natural profile, it also tends to retain more of its cannabis aroma.

In general, live resin has a stronger, more noticeable smell than distillate. Distillate carts often have lighter, sweeter, or fruitier aromas, making them a popular choice for daytime vaping or if you’re looking for something more discreet.

How to Choose Between Live Resin and Distillate

At the end of the day, the right choice comes down to what you value most in a vape cart. If you’re still having a hard time deciding, let’s break down which you should choose based on the biggest differences.

Choose live resin if you:

  • Care about flavor
  • Want terpene-rich effects
  • Enjoy strain-specific experiences
  • Prefer full-spectrum products

Choose distillate if you:

  • Want maximum THC potency
  • Prioritize affordability
  • Vape frequently
  • Prefer sweeter or fruitier flavors
  • Need something more discreet

Conclusion: Which Type of Vape is Best For You?

As you’ve seen throughout this guide, neither live resin nor distillate is universally better. The right choice depends on what you value most.

If flavor, aroma, and a strain-specific experience are your priorities, live resin may be the better fit. If you’re looking for maximum THC potency, affordability, or a more discreet vape, distillate may be the way to go.

The best way to decide is to try both and see which experience you prefer.

At Elevated Exotics, we carry both live resin and distillate vape carts, whether you’re looking for strain-specific flavor, maximum potency, or something in between.

Are Live Resin Carts Better for Lungs Than Distillate?

Live resin carts are not considered better for the lungs than distillate carts. Both are cannabis extracts that are consumed through vaporization.

Best THC Edibles in Michigan at a Glance

9 Best THC Edible Brand and Products in Michigan

From hash rosin gummies and RSO edibles to chocolates and other infused treats, these are some of the best THC edible brands and products to try in Michigan right now.

1. Good Tide

Featured Product: Mango Mellow Hash Rosin Gummies

Known For: Solventless hash rosin gummies

Other Products to Try: Guava Balanced, Pineapple Uplifting, Passion Fruit Sleep

Best For: Hash rosin edibles

If you prefer rosin edibles over the usual distillate gummies, Good Tide is a great place to start. The brand makes its gummies with solventless hash rosin, retaining naturally occurring terpenes and minor cannabinoids from the cannabis. Its Mango Mellow Gummies pair an indica-leaning rosin with real mango, a naturally myrcene-rich fruit, for a tropical gummy with 20 mg of THC per piece.

Mango isn’t the only flavor worth trying. Good Tide’s lineup includes Guava Balanced, Grapefruit Blissful and Pineapple Uplifting, along with Passion Fruit Sleep gummies for those interested in a different cannabinoid blend.

Michigan fans are particularly enthusiastic about Mango and Guava, but the texture gets almost as much love as the flavor. Buyers describe the gummies as soft and fresh rather than mealy or overly chewy, which can make a big difference if edibles are a regular part of your routine.

2. Information Entropy

Featured Product: Watermelon Lemonade RSO Gummies

Known For: RSO and single-source hash rosin gummies

Other Products to Try: Cherry Yuzu Rosin Gummies, Strawberry Guava Rosin Gummies, Black Cherry Lemonade RSO Gummies

Best For: RSO edibles

Information Entropy gives you a choice you don’t see from every edible brand: its gummies come in both hash rosin and RSO versions. The Michigan company grows and processes its own cannabis, and its RSO lineup includes flavors such as Watermelon Lemonade and Black Cherry Lemonade.

We’d go with the Watermelon Lemonade RSO Gummies, a 10-piece pack with 20 mg of THC per gummy. Fair warning if flavor is your biggest priority: RSO has a more noticeable cannabis taste, and some Michigan buyers pick up on it more than others. Still, Information Entropy’s RSO gummies have plenty of devoted fans, with Watermelon Lemonade repeatedly singled out as a favorite.

If RSO isn’t your thing, don’t write off the brand. Information Entropy’s hash rosin gummies get just as much praise, particularly for their flavor, and give you another way to see why IE has become such a popular name among Michigan edible shoppers.

3. Lost Farm

Featured Product: Pineapple x Forbidden Jelly Live Resin Gummies

Known For: Strain-specific live resin gummies and chews

Other Products to Try: Raspberry x Wedding Cake, Blueberry x Blue Dream, Strawberry Lemonade x Super Lemon Haze

Best For: Strain-specific edibles

If the cannabis itself matters as much to you as the flavor, Lost Farm is worth a look. Kiva’s extract-focused edible brand makes strain-specific gummies and chews with live resin or solventless live rosin. For its live resin products, cannabis is flash-frozen after harvest to help preserve the plant’s cannabinoids, terpenes and other compounds before extraction.

Our pick is Pineapple x Forbidden Jelly, which pairs a bright pineapple gummy with live resin from the indica-dominant Forbidden Jelly strain. Lost Farm’s lineup goes much deeper, with pairings such as Tropical Punch x Blue Dream, Raspberry x Wedding Cake and Strawberry Lemonade x Super Lemon Haze.

Michigan edible fans regularly recommend Lost Farm for both flavor and effects, particularly its live resin line. Just don’t expect the cannabis taste to disappear completely behind the fruit. Some fans specifically enjoy the more noticeable weed flavor, while others may prefer a sweeter, less cannabis-forward gummy.

4. WYLD

Featured Product: Blood Orange 1:1 THC:CBC Gummies

Known For: Real-fruit gummies with varied cannabinoid ratios

Other Products to Try: Elderberry, Pear, Pomegranate, Grapefruit

Best For: Cannabinoid variety

WYLD has range. Blood Orange combines THC and CBC, Elderberry brings CBN into the equation, Pear pairs THC with CBG, and Pomegranate goes with the usual THC combination. There are even THCV options in the lineup. That variety makes WYLD especially easy to explore once you know which cannabinoids or ratios you prefer.

The Blood Orange 1:1 THC Gummies are a good example of what the brand does well, pairing equal parts THC and CBC with a tart citrus flavor made with real-fruit ingredients. Flavor isn’t an afterthought here, either. Blood Orange, Grapefruit, and Elderberry are all favorites among Michigan buyers, and the soft, fruit-snack-like texture comes up in reviews, too.

With so many formulations and flavors to choose from, you could spend quite a while working your way through WYLD without buying the same gummy twice.

5. Cannalicious

Featured Product: Mango Recovery RSO Gummies

Known For: RSO gummies in Original, Recovery, and Rest formulas

Other Products to Try: Pear Recovery, Watermelon Rest, Cherry Original

Best For: RSO variety

Cannalicious goes deep on RSO. Rather than stopping at one gummy, the Michigan brand has built out Original, Recovery and Rest collections, with different flavors and cannabinoid profiles across each. There are RSO darts and droppers in the lineup, too, if gummies aren’t your preferred way to take it.

The Mango Recovery Gummies get our vote. Each 10-piece pack contains 200 mg of THC, while the Recovery formula also includes cannabinoids such as CBD, CBC, CBG and CBN. Pear is the other Recovery flavor; the Rest collection comes in Watermelon and Mixed Berry, while Cherry and Blue Raspberry make up the Original RSO gummy options.

Cannalicious has been around Michigan’s RSO conversation for years, although opinions on the gummies aren’t unanimous. Some buyers keep coming back to them, while others find the RSO flavor and texture a little much. If that earthy cannabis taste bothers you, this may not be your first pick.

6. Treetown

Featured Product: Pink Lemonade Cannamelt

Known For: Sublingual Cannamelts

Other Products to Try: Blue Raspberry, Cherry, Tangerine Cannamelts

Best For: A gummy alternative

Not every edible needs to be another gummy. Treetown’s Cannamelts are sublingual lozenges that dissolve under your tongue, making them one of the more unique options on this list. They’re also sugar-free, which gives you another reason to consider them if you’ve had your fill of sweet, chewy edibles.

We’d try Pink Lemonade first, although choosing a flavor may be the hardest part. Blue Raspberry, Cherry, Fruit Punch, Tangerine, and Watermelon Cannamelts are also in the mix, and Treetown offers different strengths and cannabinoid ratios depending on the product.

Cannamelts have stuck around in Michigan for a reason. Edible fans have been recommending them for years, and they still come up when people trade favorites alongside newer rosin and live resin gummies. For anyone tired of chewing their THC, they’re a nice change of pace.

7. True North

Featured Product: Lemon Drop Live Resin One Hitter

Known For: Single-piece 200 mg gummies and Five Star Extracts collaborations

Other Products to Try: Strawberry Sunburst Live Resin One Hitter, Rainbow Crunch Live Resin One Hitter, Five Star Full Spectrum Gummies

Best For: High-potency edibles

True North takes the name “One Hitter” pretty literally: you get one gummy containing the entire 200 mg of THC in the package. The Michigan brand has been making these oversized single-piece edibles for a while, but its newer live resin versions are more interesting, pairing Five Star Extracts live resin with a crunchy Nerds coating.

Lemon Drop gets our pick, with a sweet-tart citrus flavor and 200 mg packed into that single gummy. Strawberry Sunburst and Rainbow Crunch give you a couple more live resin options, while True North also makes traditional One Hitters and four-piece full-spectrum gummies infused with Five Star cured badder.

One Hitters have built quite a following in Michigan, especially among higher-tolerance shoppers. Price comes up almost as often as potency: fans regularly point to them as an inexpensive way to get 200 mg without working through an entire bag of candy.

8. Kiva

Featured Product: S’mores Milk Chocolate Bar

Known For: Infused chocolate bars, plus the larger Kiva family of edible brands

Other Products to Try: Churro Milk Chocolate, Midnight Mint Dark Chocolate CBN, Camino Midnight Blueberry

Best For: Chocolate lovers

After this many gummies, a chocolate bar sounds pretty good. Kiva has been making infused chocolate for years, and its Michigan lineup covers everything from classic Milk and Dark Chocolate to Churro, Blackberry Dark Chocolate and S’mores.

The S’mores Milk Chocolate Bar is the one we’d grab first. It delivers 200 mg of THC across 20 pieces, so each square contains 10 mg, while giving you something that feels more like an actual dessert than another fruit-flavored edible. Michigan buyers have specifically praised the S’mores bar, and Kiva’s chocolate in general has a loyal following for its taste.

There’s plenty of room to branch out, too. Churro brings cinnamon into the mix, Blackberry pairs fruit with dark chocolate, and the classic Milk Chocolate keeps things simple. Kiva is also the company behind Camino, whose fruit chews come in formulations like Wild Berry Chill, Midnight Blueberry and Watermelon Lemonade Bliss. So even if chocolate isn’t your thing, there’s a good chance you’ll find something under the larger Kiva umbrella that is.

9. Peachy Hash & Co.

Featured Product: Blue Raspberry Solventless Rosin Gummies

Known For: Single-source solventless rosin gummies

Other Products to Try: Cherry, Strawberry, Grapefruit Rosin Gummies

Best For: Single-source rosin edibles

Peachy Hash & Co. starts with the hash, not the candy. The Michigan company grows its own indoor cannabis, freezes it fresh after harvest, and washes it in ice water before pressing the collected hash into live rosin. That same single-source rosin makes its way into Peachy’s solventless gummies.

Blue Raspberry gets our pick, and we’re not alone there. Michigan buyers have singled it out as a favorite, while Peachy’s rosin gummies in general have a loyal following for their taste and effects. The rest of the lineup stays pretty focused, with Cherry, Strawberry, and Grapefruit rounding out the current flavors.

There aren’t a dozen ratios or novelty flavors to sort through here. Peachy offers four fruit flavors and emphasizes the rosin inside them. For anyone already familiar with the brand’s concentrates, the gummies are an easy way to try Peachy’s hash without pulling out a dab rig.

How We Chose the Best THC Edibles in Michigan

To narrow down our picks, we looked at:

  • Product quality: Ingredients, extract type, formulation, and overall quality.
  • Michigan consumer feedback: What local cannabis consumers consistently recommend and say about specific products.
  • Flavor and experience: Taste, texture, and what makes the edible enjoyable beyond its THC content.
  • Variety: Different formats, extract types, cannabinoid combinations, and potency options.
  • Value: Price relative to quality, potency, and the amount of product you get.
  • Brand reputation: Brands with a strong track record in Michigan and products that stand out in a crowded market.

Dosage & Consumption Tips for the Best Experience

Overall, the name of the game when it comes to edibles is to go low and slow, especially if you’re a beginner consumer. Even more importantly, it’s crucial to assess each brand and product independently, rather than basing your dose on the experiences of others. That’s because edibles can affect each consumer differently, depending on their tolerance and physiological traits, such as weight and metabolism.

A few final tips to ensure you have the best edible experience for you include:

  • Wait at least 1.5-2 hours before increasing your dose. Edibles can take some time to kick in, so before you overdo your dose, wait at least this amount of time to avoid having the type of edible horror story you may have heard from others.
  • Journal your effects for the utmost accuracy in dosage, edible type, and other factors like when you ate it, what you ate that day, and how you felt beforehand and afterward. This will help you better fine-tune your dosage and preferences as you explore edible experiences.
  • Start with a meal in your stomach. Consuming edibles on an empty stomach can affect how quickly and strongly you feel the effects. Paying attention to when and what you’ve eaten can also help you better understand how a particular edible affects you.
  • Choose a comfortable, familiar environment for your first few experiences with any new product or dose. Being in a relaxed setting with trusted people (or alone if you prefer) can help you feel more comfortable and allow you to gauge the effects without external stressors.

Best THC Edibles in Michigan: Frequently Asked Questions

Here are a few other things to know when shopping for THC edibles in Michigan.

What Are the Best THC Edibles in Michigan?

There isn’t one THC edible that’s best for everyone. Good Tide and Peachy Hash & Co. are popular choices for solventless rosin gummies, Information Entropy and Cannalicious have RSO options, and Lost Farm is known for strain-specific live resin edibles. If gummies aren’t your thing, Kiva makes infused chocolates, while Treetown’s Cannamelts offer a completely different format.

What Is the Strongest THC Edible You Can Buy in Michigan?

You’ll commonly find Michigan recreational edibles with up to 200 mg of THC per package, although the amount in an individual piece can vary by product. True North’s One Hitter, for example, puts 200 mg into a single gummy and is intended for higher-tolerance consumers. Always check both the total package potency and the amount of THC per serving before consuming an edible.

Are Rosin or Live Resin Edibles Better Than Regular THC Edibles?

Not necessarily. Rosin and live resin edibles use cannabis extracts that retain more of the plant’s original compounds than conventional distillate, which is one reason some consumers seek them out. However, the better choice comes down to your preferences, budget, and the individual product. Distillate gummies can still be a good option if flavor, consistency, or price matters more to you.

What Types of THC Edibles Can You Buy in Michigan?

Gummies may dominate dispensary menus, but they’re far from your only choice. Michigan dispensaries also carry infused chocolates, baked goods, beverages, mints, lozenges and other edibles. At Elevated Exotics, for example, you can find everything from gummies and chocolates to infused drinks and other treats, depending on the location and current inventory.

Do You Need a Medical Card to Buy THC Edibles in Michigan?

No. Adults 21 and older can purchase recreational cannabis edibles from licensed Michigan retailers with a valid government-issued photo ID. You don’t have to be a Michigan resident, either, but cannabis purchased in Michigan can’t legally be transported across state or international borders.

Best Exotic Weed Strains: 7 Top Selections in 2026

Most of our customers (and cannabis lovers worldwide) agree that exotic flower strains are the best.

But which exotic strains are the very best of the best?

You’ll ultimately discover that the strain you think is the best differs a bit from other people’s preferences – that’s because cannabis is a complex plant, and strains vary by aroma, flavor, strength, and more. They all hit differently.

However, there’s a short list of strains that people go back to time and time again because they balance these attributes so well and deliver wonderful effects, every single time.

Below we’ll discuss the seven best exotic weed strains and also break down what makes a strain exotic and the main strain types you’ll find at a dispensary.

Best Exotic Weed Strains: Quick Comparison

1. Runtz

Type: Balanced hybrid exotic

Aroma: Sweet, candy-like fruit with tropical citrus and sour berry notes.

Effects: A calm, euphoric lift that spreads into full-body relaxation.

Best For: Unwinding after work, easing stress, and a mellow body buzz.

Named for the nostalgic, colorful candy, Runtz is an exotic strain jam-packed with fruity tropical citrus and sour berry notes. It also delivers a sharp, spicy pineapple edge that gets more pungent as you break the buds up.

It’s easy to see how Runtz got its name: the smoke carries this same candy-fruit sweetness.

You’ll feel the high a few minutes after you enjoy your last hit. It’s a calming head lift that then spreads with a tingly feel throughout the rest of your body.

Runtz is a cross of Zkittlez and Gelato, and it’s become as legendary as the strains from which it’s derived: it was Leafly’s 2020 Strain of the Year and has since climbed into the top 10 most popular strains in America.

You’ll still find a variety of Runtz crosses on the exotic shelf of most dispensaries, including ours. We’re proud to carry Dr. JC’s Runtz across our four Michigan stores.

Overall, if you love candy-sweet flavors and a body high that’s relaxing but won’t knock you out, Runtz is an excellent pick. Many of our customers particularly love it at the end of the day.

2. Lantz

Type: Fruit-forward terpene profile

Aroma: Tangy sweet candy layered over forest pine and a hint of diesel.

Effects: An immediate cerebral lift that settles into grounded relaxation.

Best For: Creative focus, an upbeat mood, and a smooth late-day wind-down.

Ridgeline Farms crossed Green Lantern with their Ridgeline Runtz to create Lantz: a hybrid that delivers tangy, sweet candy and forest pine terps, and the aroma adds savory, spicy herbal notes with a touch of diesel.

The taste is sugary fruit candy, with tree fruit and sour citrus coming through on the exhale. You’ll typically feel an immediate head lift and a boost of sensory clarity, then ease into a relaxed, grounding body high.

It took Ridgeline Farms more than four years of breeding to perfect Lantz, and when you try it, you’ll see why. It’s got the awards, too: Lantz won first place in the Mixed Light category and the Mixed Light Breeder’s Cup at the 2023 Emerald Cup.

If you’re an experienced consumer looking for a bright, flavorful head high that turns into a relaxed body feel, Lantz is a strain you need to try. The effect profile it delivers makes it especially great for creative work or shifting out of work mode.

3. Motor Breath

Type: Gas-forward strain

Aroma: Loud diesel and gasoline with pine, earth, and tart lemon peel.

Effects: A fast euphoric rush followed by deep, heavy body relaxation.

Best For: Gas lovers, deep physical relaxation, and the end of a long day.

When you take your first hit of Motor Breath, you’ll be met with a flurry of flavors: diesel, gasoline, and an industrial adhesive first, followed by pine, damp earth, pepper, garlic, and tart lemon peel.

The smoke is just as bold: sour citrus and warm spice cut through an oily layer of Chem-and-OG fuel. You’ll experience a fast wave of euphoria right behind your eyes, before settling into a deep body effect characteristic of many exotic indica strains.

Jimmy Nitz of Pisces Genetics bred Motor Breath by crossing two legends, Chemdog and SFV OG Kush.

Needless to say, Motor Breath became a favorite and it’s got the recognition to back it up. It won 1st place Recreational Hybrid at the 2015 THC Championship, and it owns a spot on Leafly’s Top 100 Strains of All Time.

We love it so much at Elevated Exotics that it’s part of our own house flower lineup.

If you’re a connoisseur who loves that old-school Chem and OG gas, Motor Breath is a must. Just know it’s best enjoyed by experienced consumers, since the terpenes tend to hit harder than the lab numbers suggest. When you want heavy body effects to close out the day, Motor Breath is a great choice.

4. Tricho Jordan

Type: Heavy-hitting indica-leaning exotic

Aroma: Sweet cream and vanilla with fruity candy and a subtle earthy funk.

Effects: Deep body relaxation paired with a euphoric, mood-lifting headspace.

Best For: Melting away physical tension, stress relief, and settling in for the night.

Tricho Jordan is a dessert-forward exotic strain with a funky side. It has a rich aroma of sweet cream, vanilla, and fruity candy, with a light earthy funk underneath. Some cuts even add a few gassy undertones.

The same applies to how it tastes. You’ll enjoy flavors of creamy vanilla citrus up front with a fruity strawberry candy exhale. As soon as you exhale, you’ll feel the high: your limbs get heavy and some couchlock sets in, but the bright euphoria of Tricho Jordan keeps your mind active the whole time.

Jungle Boys cultivated Tricho Jordan by crossing Chimera #2 and Chimera #3, strains of a truffle lineage known for heavy resin production.

If you love indica strains and want dessert-style flavor with serious body effects, Tricho Jordan is worth a try. This exotic is a great pick for when you’re ready to fully relax and switch off.

5. Permanent Marker

Type: Gas-forward strain

Aroma: Pungent fuel, floral, and soapy funk that really does smell like a marker.

Effects: A happy, creative lift paired with relaxation that isn’t couch-locking.

Best For: Creative projects, lifting your mood, and relaxing while staying clear-headed.

Yes, this strain really smells like a marker. Permanent Marker’s aroma is intensely pungent, with sharp fuel, floral, and earthy notes that jump out at you the second you open the jar.

When you smoke it, you’ll taste a lingering soapy funk with hints of candy and floral gas. Even though the effects are deeply relaxing, you’ll remain surprisingly clear-headed.

JBeezy of Seed Junky Genetics bred Permanent Marker by crossing Biscotti Sherb (itself a cross between Biscotti and Sherbet) with Jealousy.

The awards this strain has won speak for themselves: Permanent Marker won High Times Strain of the Year in 2022, then turned around and took Leafly Strain of the Year in 2023.

When you try it, you’ll see why. If you’re looking for bold, funky gas terps and a potent high that can inspire creativity or create relaxation, Permanent Marker needs to be on your shelf.

6. Lemon Cherry Gelato

Type: Dessert-style strain

Aroma: Bright citrus layered with ripe cherry sweetness.

Effects: A euphoric, well-rounded high that balances mood lift with relaxation.

Best For: Flavor chasers, easing stress, and an uplifting mood boost.

Lemon Cherry Gelato smells exactly like it sounds. It’s a citrus-forward strain with a ripe cherry sweetness underneath – a fruit-topped dessert in cannabis form.

That citrus and cherry carry right through to a creamy finish. Effects are typically euphoric and balanced, which is exactly what you’d expect from strain that comes from the Gelato family.

Lemon Cherry Gelato is derived from Sunset Sherbet and Girl Scout Cookies genetics, and it’s still dominating premium menus in 2026.

Leafly called it undefeated in their hot-strains column, and when you try it, you’ll find that claim hard to argue.

If you’re someone who picks strains by flavor first, this one’s for you. It’s also a great choice if you want a sweet-tasting exotic strain to elevate your mood and ease stress.

7. Jealousy

Type: Dessert-style strain

Aroma: Creamy, sweet sherbet notes with a dessert-shop finish.

Effects: Balanced and sophisticated, pairing euphoria with calm.

Best For: Experienced smokers, balanced effects, and gradual relaxation.

Jealousy is an exotic strain made from Sherbert and Gelato. You can smell the influence of both strains right away: the aroma is creamy and sweet, and the smoke follows the nose with that same creamy dessert sweetness.

Experienced connoisseurs love this strain because its effects are balanced and sophisticated – it’s not overly powerful, nor is it overly sedating or energizing.

Jealous was bred by Seed Junky Genetics, and it hit the market in 2019 through The Minntz, a collaboration between Cookies and Seed Junky. Leafly named it Strain of the Year in 2022, and its dark purple-to-black flower rode the purple-weed trend all the way there.

Its legacy continues to grow: Jealousy is one of the parent strains of Permanent Marker, which is also one our list of the best exotic weed strains.

If you want a strain with serious status, creamy dessert-forward flavor, and balanced effects that help you slow down without sedation, Jealousy is an instant classic that you need to try.

What Are Exotic Weed Strains?

Most people who enjoy cannabis understand that “exotic” means good. Exotic strains are the best. But what actually makes a strain exotic?

It comes down to these characteristics:

  • Genetics and Lineage: The best exotic weed strains are often limited-edition genetics or heritage landrace strains with a long-standing tradition of excellence. They often include the most notable or recognizable varieties, or those that have been highly crossbred for specific flavors or effects.
  • Terpene Complexity: The more you wonder, “mmm, what’s that flavor?” the more exotic a weed strain is. Terpene complexity, or a variety of flavors, is a key indicator of exotic weed strains and contributes to a premium experience. This includes strains with gassy, floral, fruity, skunky, and other notes.
  • Appearance: Bag appeal is another common way to identify exotic marijuana strains. Luxury cannabis strains often look the part, with a heavy coating of glistening trichomes, unique or bold colors ( like purples or pinks), and a sturdy structure that begs to be broken up and enjoyed.

Checking the lab test on a product can help you verify these characteristics, and can help you determine whether a strain is exotic (if it’s not already labeled as such).

Remember, though, that exotic is just a name, and whether a strain is classified as exotic is somewhat subjective.

Strains referred to as exotics tend to deliver a next-level experience, but you should ultimately choose the strain that offers the aromas, flavors, potency, terpene profile, and look that you go for. Cannabis is meant to be enjoyed: choose the strain you like the most.

Types of Exotic Weed Strains

To help you find the strain that suits your preferences, here’s a breakdown of some of the main types of exotic cannabis strains:

Dessert-style Strains

Think Wedding Cake-crossed everything, or a Gelato variety for any type of taste or palette. These sweet, complementary strains are among the best exotic weed strains due to their unique hybrid combinations.

Gas-forward Strains

Lots of OG consumers and connoisseurs specifically seek out gas-forward strains – not only for their unique flavors but also for their satisfying, heavy effects. Anything with the term “diesel” is a surefire bet for fuel-forward flavors, but other hybrids can be gassy through cross-breeding, too.

Fruit-forward Terpene Profiles

Some of our customers prefer fruit-forward terpene profiles as their top exotic cannabis strains for their bright and fresh flavors, and lively experience or effects. Thanks to the terpene limonene, these premium cannabis strains often offer sativa-forward or energizing effects ideal for daytime use.

Balanced hybrid exotics

One of the top traits sought by most smokers is hybrids with well-balanced effects. These exotic weed strains may vary in flavor or aroma but are known for producing relaxing, not sedating, euphoric effects.

Heavy-hitting indica-leaning exotics

Many people also seek out heavy-hitting exotic weed strains that are indica-leaning in terms of their effects. These are the strains notorious for couch-locking effects or that’ll have you sleeping before the movie starts.

Best Exotic Weed Strains: Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some questions we frequently hear from customers about exotic strains:

What’s Better, Top Shelf or Exotic?

Exotic strains are generally considered a step above standard shelf weed because they combine rare genetics, complex terpene profiles, strong bag appeal, and premium cultivation. That usually means a higher price, but also richer flavor, a smoother smoke, and more consistent effects.

What Is the Rarest Strain?

No single strain holds the title of rarest, though some examples of exclusive strains are Panama Red and Black African Gold. The rarest exotics tend to be limited-edition genetics or heritage landrace strains, and their scarcity comes from unique lineage and specialized growing methods that make them hard to find on shelves.

What Is the Best Exotic Strain?

The best exotic strain depends on the effects and flavors you want. Popular picks include dessert-style strains like Jealousy, gas-forward Diesel varieties, fruity sativa-leaning strains for daytime, balanced hybrids, and heavy indica-leaning exotics for relaxing nights.

Are Exotic Strains Stronger?

Not always. “Exotic” refers to overall quality, flavor, genetics, and appearance rather than THC content alone. That said, many exotic strains deliver a more potent, longer-lasting high than regular weed because of their quality and terpene richness (many of them are above 30% THC).

Types of Weed Vape Pens: A Beginner’s Guide to Choosing the Right One

Stepping into a provisioning center to buy a weed vape pen can get confusing fast.

On the shelves, you’ll find 510 carts, disposables, dab pens, and dry herb vaporizers, which can make a seemingly simple purchase feel overwhelming.

Don’t worry; figuring out the differences is easier than you think. It all comes down to what type of cannabis you’re vaping and which device goes with it best.

The three most popular categories are oil vape pens, dab or wax pens, and dry herb vape pens.

Here’s how each weed vape pen works and what to consider when choosing the right type for you.

Weed Vape Pens: At a Glance

First, take a look at the major differences between weed vape pens side-by-side.

The 3 Main Types of Weed Vape Pens

To start, let’s explore what makes each type of weed vape pen unique.

Oil Vape Pens

Oil vape pens are one of the three main types of weed vape pens. They’re made for vaporizing cannabis oil or extract, whether in a 510 cart or all-in-one device. In both, a heating element heats the oil, turning it into vapor that’s inhaled through the mouthpiece.

The biggest difference is how the device and battery are configured.

For 510 cartridge pens, you’ll attach a reusable, rechargeable battery (the pen) to a pre-filled cartridge.

Disposable or all-in-one devices have the battery, heating element, and oil or extract reservoir in one device.

Pod systems use removable pods that usually come with a brand-specific battery or proprietary connection.

Across all three oil vape types, you’ll also find different oil or extract types including:

  • Distillate
  • Live resin
  • Live rosin

Overall, vape or oil pens require less prep and cleaning than dry herb or dab pens, making them a straightforward option for beginners.

In our experience, customers who are newer to vaping tend to gravitate toward oil pens, especially disposables, because there’s very little learning curve. You don’t have to grind flower, load a chamber, or handle sticky concentrates. Just pick your vape and go.

Dry Herb Vape Pens

Dry herb vape pens are designed for vaporizing cannabis flower. Like a traditional bowl or bong, you pack the flower into the heating chamber.

Then, activate the device and follow the manufacturer’s instructions to heat the flower to your set temperature. Rather than combusting the flower to create smoke, the device heats it to produce vapor.

Dry herb vaporizers generally use conduction, convection, or a combination of the two to heat the flower.

Conduction heats the flower through contact with a heated surface, while convection circulates heated air through it.

Because dry herb vaporizers need room for the flower chamber and heating system, they can be bulkier than oil vape pens.

They also require you to grind the flower, load the chamber, select the temperature, and clean it after use, making them more involved than the oil or weed vape pens we just covered.

Many consumers choose dry herb vaporizers because they can continue using flower without combusting it and have more control over the vaping experience.

Dab Pens/Wax Pens

Dab pens, which are often called wax pens or concentrate pens, are portable vaporizers designed for concentrates you can add yourself.

These devices are designed for thicker extracts and have a chamber or atomizer where you can load wax, budder/badder, shatter, or other similar-texture concentrates.

From there, the heating element heats the concentrate, transforming it into vapor to inhale through the mouthpiece.

Most dab pens use ceramic or quartz heating elements/chambers and offer a range of temperature and voltage settings to control heat and hit intensity.

Wax or dab pens, like dry herb vaporizers, require more hands-on setup and post-sesh cleaning to avoid buildup.

Keep in mind that concentrates can contain substantially more THC than cannabis flower [1]. This can make the experience more intense, meaning you should go low and slow with your hits if you’re a beginner.

Types of Oil Used in Weed Vape Pens

Now, let’s break down the differences between the various types of oil used in weed vape pens.

510 cartridges, disposable devices, and pods for proprietary batteries can all contain different types of cannabis extracts. Here’s how each differs:

  • Distillate: Distillate is a highly refined extract that typically contains high concentrations of cannabinoids such as THC or CBD. The refining process removes many of the plant’s naturally occurring compounds, and terpenes may be added back in for flavor and aroma.
  • Full-spectrum extracts: Extracts labeled full-spectrum are generally formulated to retain a broader range of compounds from the cannabis plant, including cannabinoids and terpenes, rather than primarily concentrating THC like distillate.
  • Live resin: Live resin is made using cannabis flower material that’s frozen shortly after harvest rather than dried and cured. It’s then extracted using solvents such as butane or other hydrocarbons.
  • Cured resin: Cured resin uses the same solvent-based process to extract oil from flower material; however, instead of freshly freezing the flower, it’s made with flower that’s been dried and cured.
  • Live rosin: For live rosin, the “live” again refers to its origins of fresh-frozen cannabis flower. But unlike live resin, it uses a solventless process, using only heat and pressure for extraction.
  • Liquid diamonds: Liquid diamonds refer to an extract of highly concentrated THCA “diamonds” that are mixed with terpene-rich extracts or live-resin-like “sauce” specifically crafted for vape products.

While it’s common for most consumers to go straight for the highest THC percentages, there’s more that goes into the effect and experience than just cannabinoids. Terpene profiles can vary considerably between cannabis products and can also be affected by processing methods [2].

At Elevated Exotics, we see plenty of shoppers head straight for the highest THC number, but that doesn’t tell you everything about a vape. Depending on what you care about, factors like extract type, terpene profile, flavor, and overall experience can matter just as much, or more.

How to Choose the Right Weed Vape Pen

Since the type of material you’ll consume varies by device, start there. Choose the cannabis product you prefer, and select your device from its category.

If you like oil or extract in a portable, easy-to-use device, choose a universal 510 battery and threaded cartridge or an all-in-one device.

If you’re a dab enthusiast and just want to take your concentrates on the go, choose a dab or wax pen.

If you prefer the lower potency and traditional nature of cannabis flower, dry herb vaporizers are the weed vape type for you.

Of course, within each category, you’ll choose your device type or brand based on even more personal preferences, including:

  • Ease of use and experience: 510 carts and disposables are best for beginners who don’t want the extra work of prepping and cleaning, while dab pens are ideal for concentrate users who appreciate the ritual of loading and maintenance.
  • Frequency of use: If you’re an intermittent or occasional user, choose a smaller 0.5 g size if shopping in the disposable device or 510 cart categories. We’ve found that customers who have trouble with larger carts clogging sometimes have better luck with 0.5 g carts. Because they tend to finish them faster, the oil has less time to sit, thicken, and build up in the airflow path.
  • Discretion: Dry herb vaporizers and dab pens tend to be larger and require more setup. Oil vape pens tend to be smaller and produce less odor than vaping flower or concentrates, making them a more discreet option.
  • Control & customization: All-in-one devices are typically preset, offering less control over airflow and temperature, while dab pens and dry herb vaporizers may offer more adjustable settings. We’ve found that people who vape regularly are more likely to have a few different carts in rotation rather than sticking to just one. They may choose between them depending on the flavor or experience they want.
  • Cost: While dab pens and dry herb vaporizers can cost more up front, buying materials in bulk (concentrates or flower) over time can be more cost-effective than continually buying 510 carts or disposable devices.

No matter what, only buy cannabis vape products from licensed, regulated sources like Michigan provisioning centers, and check available product testing rather than purchasing unverified or illicit-market products [3].

Conclusion: What Is the Best Weed Vape Pen?

In this guide, you’ve learned there isn’t a universal best weed vape pen. There’s a weed vape pen type that’s right for you and your individual tastes and preferences.

The best choice comes down to what you want from the experience, whether that’s the convenience of an oil pen, the familiarity of flower or a portable way to enjoy concentrates.

In Michigan, Elevated Exotics offers all three types of weed vape pens across its five locations.

Weed Vape Pen Types: Frequently Asked Questions

Here’s what else to know about choosing and using different types of weed vape pens.

What Vape Is Best for Weed?

The best weed vape depends on what you want to consume. Oil vape pens are convenient and easy to use, dry herb vaporizers let you vape cannabis flower, and dab pens are designed for concentrates like wax and shatter. Consider your experience level, preferred cannabis product, maintenance, and portability when choosing.

What’s the Strongest Type of Weed Pen?

Dab pens are often considered one of the strongest options because the concentrates they vaporize can contain substantially more THC than cannabis flower. However, the pen itself doesn’t determine how potent the experience will be. The product’s cannabinoid concentration, how much you consume, and your individual tolerance all play a role.

Are Disposable or Reusable Weed Pens Better?

Disposable weed pens offer the most convenience since they come ready to use and require little maintenance. Reusable vape pens may cost more upfront but let you replace cartridges or pods while keeping the same battery. The better choice depends on how frequently you vape and how much flexibility you want.

What Type of Weed Pen Is Best for Beginners?

Oil vape pens are often the easiest option for beginners because they require less preparation and maintenance than dry herb or dab pens. Disposables are especially straightforward since they come prefilled and ready to use, while rechargeable cartridge systems offer a simple option for more regular use.

How to Vape Weed: A Beginner’s Step-by-Step Guide

What smoking weed was to the 1970s, vaping weed is to the 2000s. The popular method has become a convenient, portable, and discreet way to consume.

Even though the process seems straightforward, with so many different hardware types, oil types, heat settings, and ways to use them, the world of vaping can get confusing for new consumers fast.

In this guide, we’ll explain what vaping is, how to do it, and the most common reasons consumers choose this method today.

What Is Vaping Weed?

Vaping weed refers to heating cannabis without directly burning it with a lighter. Instead, a heating element heats the product, creating a vapor to inhale.

Heating cannabis releases compounds including cannabinoids like THC and CBD, along with terpenes, which contribute to weed’s aroma and flavor.

But you can’t vape just any cannabis product in any device. Different forms of cannabis require compatible devices.

Dry herb vaporizers let you vape flower, disposable vapes or 510 carts are for vaping oil or extracts, while portable dab pens or rigs let you vape concentrates on the go.

Today, all-in-one devices, or “disposable” vapes, and 510 carts attached to a battery-powered heating element are the most common vaping methods.

Types of Cannabis Vapes

Here’s a side-by-side comparison of the most common types of cannabis vapes.

How to Choose a Cannabis Vape

So how can you choose a cannabis vape that’s right for you? First decide what you want to vape, which for most will be a cannabis oil or extract.

Then decide what type of device best suits your lifestyle. Disposables are easier to use overall, as they come ready to draw or inhale, with no attachment required.

510 carts, on the other hand, require attachment to a battery-powered device, which heats the coil to vaporize the liquid for inhalation.

Disposables are a popular choice for beginners because they’re easy to use. Many activate on draw or with a simple button click and don’t require compatible cartridges. In fact, we see a lot of first-time vape customers at Elevated Exotics gravitate toward disposables because there’s no separate battery, cartridge compatibility, or loading to figure out. Many activate on draw or with a simple button click.

On the flip side, more advanced users might choose devices with adjustable temperature, voltage, or airflow over those with preset settings and less control.

The final consideration comes down to battery life and how much you’ll be using your vaping device. Consider the battery capacity of standard disposables versus 510 cart-compatible battery setups, and how they fit your budget based on how often you use them.

How to Vape Weed

How to vape weed will depend on the type of cannabis you’re vaping and the device you’re using. Dry herb vaporizers vary by device, with different controls, temperature settings, and features.

Like a traditional bong or bowl that you would light, you’ll load the chamber and follow the device instructions. The same goes for portable dab rigs or pens with concentrates like live resin or live rosin.

Vaping weed via disposable devices or 510 carts is much more straightforward. Many disposables are draw-activated, so you simply inhale through the mouthpiece to produce vapor.

Others may require you to click a button to power on, while some let you adjust the settings through a series of clicks.

510 carts or pod systems must be attached to their power or battery devices accordingly.

Once your device is ready, take a slow, gentle draw and inhale the vapor into your lungs, then exhale normally. There’s no need to hold the vapor in for an extended period.

Best Temperature for Vaping Weed

Many consumers vape for the big clouds of vapor but dread the coughing that can follow.

At Elevated Exotics, we’ve found that customers often assume more heat means a better hit. But turning up the voltage or temperature can sacrifice flavor and make the vapor harsher.

If you’d prefer to savor the flavor of the weed you’re vaping, lower temperatures are a good place to start. This also lets you get used to the strain, its effects, and the device itself.

All in all, there’s no single recommended temperature for vaping cannabis. It’ll vary depending on the product, device, and manufacturer recommendations.

For a general idea, here’s a brief guide to common settings for each product type:

  • Dry cannabis flower: Approximately 320-430°F (160-221°C) is a common range for vaping flower. Lower temperatures typically produce lighter, more flavorful vapor, while higher temperatures produce denser vapor.
  • Cannabis oil cartridges: Adjustable 510 batteries typically let you control voltage rather than temperature. Settings vary by device and cartridge, but lower voltages generally produce cooler, more flavorful vapor.
  • Cannabis concentrates: Electronic dab devices can offer a wide range of temperature settings depending on the device and concentrate being used, so follow the manufacturer’s recommended range.

In general, lower settings tend to preserve more flavor and produce lighter vapor, while higher settings produce more vapor with a harsher hit.

Start low and gradually raise the temperature to find your ideal setting based on the product and vaping method.

Vaping Weed vs. Smoking Weed

Next, let’s break down the biggest differences between vaping weed and smoking weed.

  • Smoking cannabis uses combustion, while vaping heats the flower or extract without a flame or burn [1].
  • Vaping typically produces less odor and provides more temperature control.
  • Studies show vaporizer use often has fewer respiratory symptoms than smoking cannabis [2].
  • Despite these differences, both methods deliver cannabinoids through inhalation, with effects that can be felt quickly.

Best Practices for Beginner Weed Vapers

Any new consumer can benefit from learning a few vaping best practices.

  • Start low and slow: Begin with one or two small puffs and wait before consuming more to assess the effects.
  • Use lower heat to start: If the device is adjustable, begin toward the lower end of its recommended settings and increase gradually as needed.
  • Take slow, gentle draws: One of the biggest mistakes we see newer vape users make is treating a vape like a joint and taking long or repeated pulls. Don’t forget: it’s not a joint! Stick with smaller, gentler draws with some time between them to better gauge the effects and avoid overdoing it.
  • Keep your vape clean: To maintain flavor and performance, clean your device’s components according to the manufacturer’s instructions, which differ for dry-herb, cartridge, and concentrate devices.
  • Store it properly: Keep cannabis vapes away from excessive heat and direct sunlight and follow product/device storage instructions. It’s always best to store oil devices upright to help minimize leaking.

How to Vape Weed Safely

The best way to vape weed safely is to only purchase regulated, lab-tested cannabis products from licensed provisioning centers.

Don’t purchase vapes from an informal source or unregulated markets like vape shops or gas stations, as they don’t undergo the same testing for contaminants and potency. During the EVALI outbreak, vitamin E acetate was strongly linked to lung injuries involving THC vaping products [3].

It’s also best to use only products designed for your device. In other words, don’t use homemade oils or extracts that aren’t intended for vaping or put dry herb in a device that isn’t designed for flower. Using incompatible products can damage the device or expose you to unnecessary risks.

Like any electronic device, make sure the battery isn’t damaged or leaking, and stop using it if it malfunctions. To avoid mishaps, use only compatible charging equipment and follow all instructions.

Lastly, cannabis impairs you, so keep it out of the reach of children and don’t drive after use.

Conclusion: How to Vape Weed

In the end, how to vape weed depends on your preferences, the product you’re vaping, and the device.

If you’re a beginner, play around with heat settings and draw techniques to find your sweet spot. And no matter what you’re vaping, go low and slow while you get the hang of it.

Ready to take your first puff? Shop high-quality THC vapes, concentrates, and flower for dry herb vaporizers at Elevated Exotics. Whether you want something dead simple or a setup with more control, there’s a vape with your name on it.

How to Vape Weed: Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to some of the most common questions about how to vape weed.

Do You Inhale a Weed Vape?

Yes. Cannabis vape aerosol is inhaled into the lungs, where cannabinoids such as THC are absorbed. Avoid deep or forceful inhalation.

Is It Better to Puff or Inhale a Weed Vape?

It’s better to inhale rather than just puff a weed vape and keep the vapor in your mouth. Take a slow, gentle draw and inhale the vapor into your lungs without taking an especially deep or forceful breath.

Do You Have to Hold Weed Vapor in Your Lungs?

No. Holding vapor in your lungs for an extended period isn’t necessary and isn’t likely to meaningfully increase the effects.

How Long Does It Take to Feel the Effects of Vaping Weed?

Effects can begin within seconds to minutes, although it may take 10-30 minutes to feel the full effects. Waiting before consuming more can reduce the risk of taking more THC than intended.

How Do You Clean and Store a Weed Vape?

Cleaning depends on the device: dry-herb and concentrate vaporizers require periodic removal of residue, while cartridge systems may need the mouthpiece and connection points cleaned. Follow manufacturer instructions and store the device away from excessive heat and securely away from children and pets.

Can You Bring a Weed Vape on a Plane?

Flying is already stressful enough without wondering if the weed vape in your bag is about to turn your trip through security into a whole ordeal. Unfortunately, there isn’t a simple yes or no answer.

While you can bring a vape on a plane, having THC in that vape complicates things, even if cannabis is perfectly legal where you live. Here’s what you need to know before heading to the airport.

Can You Bring a Weed Vape Through TSA?

Here’s where things get a little tricky. Cannabis is still illegal under federal law, so that vape you legally picked up at your local dispensary can suddenly become a problem when you get to the airport. Even flying between two weed-friendly states doesn’t get around that.

It’s a question we hear from out-of-state customers at Elevated Exotics, especially those who assume buying a vape legally in Michigan means they can legally fly home with it. Unfortunately, that’s not how federal law works.

TSA isn’t hunting for your weed pen, though. Its officers are there to look for security threats, not dig through your bag hoping to find a stray cart. Still, if cannabis turns up during screening, TSA is required to report it to local law enforcement. From there, it’s out of TSA’s hands.

TSA also lists medical marijuana as allowed in carry-on and checked bags with “special instructions,” but that doesn’t give weed vapes a blanket green light. Cannabis still has to comply with federal law, and vaping devices have separate battery rules that prohibit them from checked baggage.

Can You Pack a Weed Vape in Your Carry-On?

If you’re traveling with any type of vape, your carry-on is where the device is supposed to go. TSA and FAA rules prohibit e-cigarettes and vaping devices from checked baggage because their lithium batteries can pose a fire risk. You’ll also need to protect the device from accidentally turning on while it’s packed.

We’ve seen this cause some confusion with customers, too: being required to put a vape in your carry-on doesn’t mean you’re allowed to bring the THC inside it through security.

The carry-on rule only applies to the device, not necessarily what’s inside it. Delta and American Airlines, for example, allow e-cigarettes in carry-on bags but separately prohibit passengers from transporting marijuana.

If you’re carrying separate vape liquid, normal TSA liquid limits apply. And whatever you pack still has to comply with federal cannabis laws.

What Happens If TSA Finds a Weed Vape?

Getting caught with a weed vape doesn’t automatically mean you’re getting arrested. If TSA finds suspected marijuana during screening, they’ll turn the situation over to law enforcement. At that point, TSA is no longer calling the shots.

What happens next depends largely on where you are. Police at an airport in a weed-legal state may respond very differently than they would somewhere possession is still illegal. How much you’re carrying may make a difference, too. And even if you’re flying between two weed-friendly states, marijuana is still illegal under federal law.

You could walk away without charges, but getting pulled aside and waiting for police can still derail your travel day and potentially cost you your flight.

What About CBD and Hemp Vapes?

CBD and hemp vapes fall into a slightly different category because they aren’t necessarily marijuana products. Right now, federal law generally defines hemp as cannabis containing no more than 0.3% delta 9 THC by dry weight, so some hemp-derived vapes can be federally legal.

If you’re flying later this year, though, check again before you pack. New federal hemp rules are scheduled to take effect in November 2026, with stricter limits that account for total THC and could affect many products sold as hemp today.

State laws can throw another wrench into things, especially with delta 8, THCA, and similar products. No matter what’s inside, though, a battery-powered vape still belongs in your carry-on.

Can You Bring a Weed Vape on an International Flight?

Flying internationally with a weed vape is a much bigger risk. Once you cross a national border, the cannabis laws back home don’t mean much, and neither does having a U.S. medical marijuana card.

Some countries ban THC outright, with penalties that can go well beyond having your vape taken away. You could face hefty fines, deportation, or even jail time. Don’t forget about layovers, either. A country you’re only passing through may have its own cannabis and customs laws.

Your safest move is to leave the weed vape at home. If you’re unsure about a particular destination, check that country’s official government and customs guidance before you fly.

The Bottom Line

So, can you bring a weed vape on a plane? The safest answer is to leave it at home. TSA may not be searching specifically for cannabis, but marijuana is still federally illegal, and getting through security with a vape doesn’t make it legal.

If you do travel with any vape, know what’s inside it, check the laws where you’re going, and remember that the device itself belongs in your carry-on. And if you’re flying internationally, a weed vape simply isn’t worth the gamble.

When customers visiting from out of state ask us about taking cannabis home, our advice is simple: buy what you plan to enjoy while you’re in Michigan rather than counting on bringing the leftovers through the airport.

If your travels bring you to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, save yourself the airport headache and pick up a fresh vape at Elevated Exotics once you get here.

Frequently Asked Questions About Flying With a Weed Vape

Before you pack your bags, here are a few more things worth knowing about flying with a weed vape.

Can TSA Tell If a Vape Is THC?

Not necessarily just by looking at it. TSA doesn’t screen specifically for marijuana, but officers can inspect your bag and its contents during security screening. If they discover suspected marijuana, they can refer the matter to law enforcement.

Can You Put a Weed Vape in Checked Luggage?

No. Battery-powered vapes and e-cigarettes aren’t allowed in checked baggage because of the fire risk from lithium batteries. The device needs to go in your carry-on and be protected from accidentally turning on. That rule applies to vapes in general and doesn’t make the THC inside a weed vape federally legal.

Can You Fly With a Weed Vape If You Have a Medical Marijuana Card?

A medical marijuana card doesn’t give you a pass to fly with a THC vape. TSA’s current guidance includes special instructions for medical marijuana, but cannabis products still have to comply with federal law.

Can You Bring a Disposable Weed Vape on a Plane?

Disposable vapes follow the same basic rules as other battery-powered vapes: the device belongs in your carry-on, not your checked luggage. If the disposable contains marijuana-derived THC, however, you still run into the same federal cannabis restrictions discussed above.

Weed Pen vs. Vape: What’s the Difference?

If you’ve ever shopped for a cannabis vape, you’ve probably noticed the terminology is all over the place.

Weed pen. Vape pen. Vaporizer. Dab pen.

There are a lot of names for devices that, at first glance, seem to do basically the same thing.

There are some important differences, though. A weed pen is a type of vape made specifically for cannabis, usually oil or distillate, while “vape” is a much broader term. The type of cannabis they can handle, portability, and level of control can vary quite a bit, making some vapes a better fit for you than others.

Weed Pen vs. Vape: Key Differences

What Is a Weed Pen?

A weed pen is a small, portable vaporizer made for cannabis, and it’s about as straightforward as cannabis devices get. Most use cannabis oil or distillate in a cartridge, while disposables come prefilled and ready to go. A battery-powered heating element warms the oil to create vapor rather than burning it and producing smoke.

Convenience is really the whole point. There’s no flower to grind, bowl to pack, or lighter to hunt down. Depending on the weed pen, you may attach a cartridge or use a prefilled disposable, then press a button or simply inhale to get started. They’re also small enough to slip into your pocket, making them an easy option when you’re on the go.

What Is a Vape?

A vape is the bigger umbrella category. It’s any electronic device that heats a material to create an inhalable vapor or aerosol without burning it. When we’re talking cannabis, that material might be oil, dry flower, or concentrates such as wax and shatter.

And vapes aren’t all tiny pens. They range from pocket-sized devices to larger portable and desktop vaporizers, with some offering precise temperature controls or compatibility with different cannabis materials. In other words, every weed pen is a vape, but not every vape is a weed pen.

Weed Pen vs. Vape: How Do They Compare?

Once you get past the terminology, it mostly comes down to what you want to vape. Weed pens keep things simple and portable, while other vaporizers can handle flower or concentrates and give you more control over how you vape.

Cannabis Material

Weed pens typically use cannabis oil or distillate, either in a replaceable cartridge or a prefilled disposable. Other cannabis vapes can be designed for dry flower, concentrates like wax or live resin, or, in some cases, both flower and concentrates.

At Elevated Exotics, our vape menu includes everything from distillate carts and disposables to live resin and live rosin options. Even if you know you want a weed pen, you’ll still need to decide what you want in it.

Ease of Use

Weed pens are about as easy as it gets. They’re slim, lightweight, and usually require little more than a charged battery and a cartridge. Disposables make things even easier since there’s nothing to attach or refill.

Other vaporizers usually take a little more work. With a dry-herb vape, you’ll need to grind and load the flower. Concentrate vaporizers can mean loading the chamber yourself and cleaning out the residue afterward.

After seeing plenty of vapes come through our shelves, we’ve learned that hardware counts more than you think. Even a great oil can be frustrating if the cart clogs, leaks, burns too hot, or has weak airflow. That’s why we pay attention to the hardware along with the extract when choosing vapes for our menu.

Temperature Control

Many basic weed pens keep temperature controls minimal. Some give you a few voltage or heat settings, while others choose the temperature for you automatically.

We’ve tried enough vapes at Elevated Exotics to know that temperature can make a noticeable difference. Crank it up and you can get bigger clouds, while lower settings can bring out more of the flavor. Having a few settings to play with makes it easier to find what you like.

Potency

Neither device is more potent just because it’s a weed pen or a vape. What’s inside matters much more. Cannabis oils and especially concentrates can contain substantially more THC than flower, so two devices that look similar can deliver very different experiences [1].

And those little pens can pack more of a punch than their size suggests. If you’re new to vaping or trying a higher-potency oil or concentrate, give yourself some time before going back for another hit.

Are Weed Pens Safer Than Other Vapes?

It’s tempting to assume that a smaller, simpler weed pen must also be the safer option, but there’s no good evidence that weed pens are inherently safer than other cannabis vapes. Vapes use heat rather than combustion, which avoids some of the harmful byproducts created by burning cannabis, but vaping still comes with risks of its own [2].

Then there’s what’s inside the vape. Unregulated or untested cannabis vape oils can contain additives or contaminants you probably don’t want to inhale [3]. THC can sneak up on you, too. Some vape oils and concentrates contain high concentrations of THC, so it can be easy to get more than you bargained for. If you choose to vape cannabis, opt for regulated, tested products rather than cartridges from unlicensed sellers.

Vape Pen vs. Vape: Which One Should You Choose?

If you just want something easy, it’s hard to beat a wee pen. Pop in a cart (or grab a disposable), take a hit, and you’re pretty much set. There’s not much to mess with, and the whole thing can fit in your pocket.

But maybe easy isn’t all you’re after. If you want to vape flower, get into concentrates, or play around with temperature settings, another type of cannabis vape gives you a lot more to work with.

The easiest way to decide is to start with what you want to vape. Once you know that, picking the right device gets a whole lot easier.

Enough comparing. Time to start vaping. Check out Elevated Exotics’ selection and find a vape that fits your style.

Weed Pen vs. Vape: Frequently Asked Questions

Here are quick answers to the most common questions about weed pens and vapes.

Is a Weed Pen the Same as a Vape?

A weed pen is a type of vape, but not every vape is a weed pen. “Vape” is the broader term for devices that heat a material without burning it, while weed pens are small, portable vapes made specifically for cannabis.

Is a Weed Pen the Same as a Dab Pen?

Not usually. Weed pens typically use cannabis oil or distillate, while dab pens are designed for thicker concentrates such as wax, shatter, budder, or rosin. Both are portable cannabis vaporizers, but what you load into them is the big difference.

Is a Weed Pen the Same as a Cart?

No. The cart is the cartridge containing the cannabis oil, while the weed pen is the device that heats it. With a reusable weed pen, you typically screw or attach a new cart to the battery when the old one is empty. Disposable weed pens combine both parts into one device.

Can You Put Dry Weed in a Vape Pen?

Only if the vape pen is specifically designed for dry flower. Don’t put ground cannabis into a cartridge or oil vape pen. The heating system isn’t designed for it. If flower is your thing, look for a dry-herb vaporizer with a chamber made for ground cannabis.

Is a Weed Pen a Nicotine Vape?

No. A weed pen is designed for cannabis, while nicotine vapes use nicotine-containing e-liquids. They can look similar from the outside, which is one reason all this terminology gets confusing, but what’s inside, and what the device is designed to vaporize, is different.

Best Weed Vape in Michigan: Top Carts and Disposables for 2026

If you’re a frequent weed vape consumer, you’re not alone. At many Michigan dispensaries, disposable weed vapes and 510 carts make up one of the largest product categories on the menu.

Of course, that can make choosing the right vape more difficult. From budget-friendly distillate carts to premium live rosin disposables, products vary widely in flavor, quality, hardware, and price.

This guide is designed to help you choose the best carts and disposables based on feedback from Michigan shoppers. Look beyond the biggest names on the menu and keep reading for a closer look at some of the state’s most talked-about vape brands.

Best Weed Vape in Michigan: Comparison Chart

1. Information Entropy

Extract Type: Live rosin

Format: Disposable, 510 Cart

Best For: Overall quality

Price: $30 for 0.5g disposable

Information Entropy, commonly known as IE, is a family-owned Michigan cannabis company based in the Ann Arbor area. It’s well known for its in-house cultivation, pheno-hunting, and solventless extraction program.

The brand’s live rosin vapes and concentrates helped put it on the map, especially among Michigan cannabis connoisseurs.

By controlling the process from cultivation through extraction, Information Entropy has built a reputation for flavorful vapes, standout strains like Mandarin Z and Piña Con Fresa, and generally reliable hardware.

Many Michigan consumers consider IE one of the state’s top vape brands because it’s often viewed as a safe bet for quality and consistency.

Of course, different strains can perform differently, and no vape hardware is perfect. Spit-back, clogging, and weak airflow can still occur from time to time.

2. Eastside Alchemy

Extract Type: Live Hash Rosin

Format: AIO Disposable

Best For: Premium live rosin vapes

Price: $40-$50 for 0.5g

Eastside Alchemy is another small, craft live-hash rosin brand known for its solventless products and rosin collaborations.

The brand boasts a “quality over everything” motto, and its vape lineup follows suit. Its collection includes 0.5g live hash rosin all-in-one disposables featuring popular strains like Papaya Juice, Too Much Grape, and Banana Shack.

Many connoisseurs praise Eastside Alchemy for its flavor, thanks in part to terpene levels that often range from 4% to 9%.

Regardless of the terpene profile you’re chasing, the brand leads in terp-forward vapes and concentrates and is frequently mentioned among Michigan’s top live rosin brands.

With that said, quality comes at a price. Some consumers have a hard time justifying $50 for a half gram, while others take advantage of promotions or first-time buyer deals to experience the brand at a lower cost.

3. Ice Kream Hash Co.

Extract Type: Live Rosin

Format: 510 Cart, AIO Disposable

Best For: Live rosin 510 carts

Price: $30-$45 for 0.5g

Another solventless brand that’s popular among Michigan cannabis consumers for its live rosin vapes, dabs, infused pre-rolls, and edibles is Ice Kream Hash Co.

The brand’s loud, vibrant packaging is easy to spot on dispensary shelves, and many consumers say its small-batch drops deliver bold flavor.

Ice Kream Hash Co. produces not only all-in-one devices and 510 carts but also infused pre-rolls and concentrates.

Overall, their flavors are spot-on, but the hardware can be hit-or-miss. Some consumers prefer attaching their 510 carts to their own batteries, citing failure issues with the brand’s disposables and less control over temperature settings.

Regardless of which format you choose, you can count on Ice Kream Hash Co. for premium strains with high-powered flavor, including Michigan favorites like Super Boof, Double Baked Cake, and beyond.

Shop Ice Kream Hash Co. at Elevated Exotics

4. Wojo

Extract Type: Live Rosin

Format: AIO Disposable

Best For: Flavor variety and terpene-driven rosin

Price: Around $35 for 0.5g

Widely discussed on online forums and communities like Reddit, this wouldn’t be the best guide to weed vapes in Michigan without mentioning Wojo.

Wojo, like Information Entropy, is a single-source solventless brand that’s highly revered for its in-house genetics and solventless processing. It also has an extensive collection of live rosin dabs, flower, pre-rolls, and recently launched Wo-Go live rosin vapes.

Its vape lineup includes 0.5g Wo-Go live rosin disposables made with no additives or fillers, satisfying terp-chasers with an average terpene content of 7% or higher.

Many consumers rely on Wojo for terp-forward rosin from their favorite genetics, such as Sundae Driver, Oishii, and Strawberry Candy, among others.

However, there are a few downsides. Some consumers say the flavor fades midway through the 0.5g device, while others feel the vapes burn through oil more quickly than expected.

Shop Wojo at Elevated Exotics

5. 710 Labs

Extract Type: Live Rosin, Persy Rosin
Format: 1g Disposable, Pod System, Concentrates
Best For: Premium solventless cannabis enthusiasts
Price: Around $50-$80 for 1g live rosin vapes

One of the most recognizable names in solventless cannabis, 710 Labs was founded in Colorado in 2010 and later expanded to California and Michigan, offering its premium Persy line and other products.

The brand specializes in ice water hash and live rosin, building its reputation on small-batch cultivation and terpene preservation.

In Michigan, you’ll find 710 Labs pods, all-in-one live rosin vapes, concentrates, flower, and pre-rolls. Popular strains include Rainbow Belts, Grease Bucket, and various Rambutan crosses.

That premium reputation comes with a premium price tag. While many consumers praise the brand’s terpene-rich flavor and dab-like experience, prices can reach $80 per gram, putting 710 Labs among the most expensive vape options on Michigan dispensary shelves.

Unlike some premium brands, many consumers feel the higher prices are justified by the quality of the oil, flavor, and overall experience.

6. Element

Extract Type: Live Resin, Live Rosin

Format: 0.5g 510 Cart, 1g Disposable

Best For: Established live resin carts

Price: Around $18 for 0.5g live resin carts; $33-$55 for 1g live resin disposables; $40-$45 for 0.5g live rosin vapes

Another longtime brand dating back to the caregiver era is Element, known for its live resin, THCA, cured resin, infused joints, and now live rosin.

After only producing 0.5g 510 carts for what seemed like forever, Element has expanded its lineup in recent years to include a 1g cart and a 1g all-in-one disposable for added convenience.

The brand is best known for its live resin products, which are made with fresh-frozen flower sourced from Michigan craft cultivators. Strains like Trop Cherry, Grape Pie, and Garlic Icing are among the most popular with consumers.

Element is also a multi-award-winning High Times Cannabis Cup winner and is known for products made without added distillate, terpenes, or other additives.

While consumers often praise the brand for its true-to-strain flavor, recent feedback on its all-in-one devices has been more mixed. Many consumers prefer Element’s 510 carts for the best experience and recommend fine-tuning the temperature settings to prevent leakage.

7. Five Star Extracts

Extract Type: Nug Run Sugar Sauce/Cured Resin

Format: 0.5g 510 Cart, 1g Disposable

Best For: Flavorful non-distillate carts

Price: Around $20-$35, depending on cart type, size, and dispensary deal

A longtime favorite among Michigan vape consumers is Five Star Extracts. As part of the True North Collective, Five Star is well known for its nug run sugar sauce carts and concentrates, with many consumers keeping an eye out for new drops.

In 2023, the brand’s Black Cherry Trop Nug Run Sugar Sauce earned third place at the High Times Cannabis Cup, adding to its reputation among concentrate enthusiasts.

Many consumers praise the brand’s all-ceramic 0.5g 510 cart AVD hardware, which burns premium oil evenly for the highest possible flavor experience.

Its 1g disposables are just as reliable, using Kung Fu Vapes hardware with USB-C rechargeability and a preheat option, but again, like any hardware, they can clog or burn fast.

Alongside brands like Element, Humblebee, and LightSky Farms, Five Star remains a popular choice for budget-friendly, flavor-forward resin vapes in strains like Cadillac Rainbows, Devil Driver, and more.

8. LightSky Farms

Extract Type: Live Resin, Live Rosin

Format: 0.5g 510 Cart, Disposable

Best For: Flavorful live resin carts

Price: Around $15-$30 for 0.5g carts

Not to be confused with Five Star, LightSky Farms is another longtime weed vape brand popular among Michigan consumers. The brand started as a caregiver operation back in 2013 and has built a loyal following across the state since then.

The company has also earned more than 36 High Times Cannabis Cups over the years, helping establish its reputation among Michigan cannabis consumers.

Keeping everything in-house, LightSky Farms cultivates, extracts, and produces a wide range of products, including vape carts, concentrates, flower, and live rosin.

Some of the brand’s most talked-about strains include Garlic Icing, Trop Truffle, Bananaconda, Blumosa, and Lemon Trop (or anything Trop!).

If you’re looking for quality and affordability, LightSky Farms is a good choice. While many consumers report positive experiences with the hardware, it’s still worth checking manufacturing dates, as some users say older products can develop burnt or oxidized flavors.

How to Choose the Best Weed Vape in Michigan

The brands above all have loyal followings, but the right choice ultimately comes down to your preferences. Here are a few factors worth considering before making a purchase.

  • Extract type: First, decide which extract type you prefer, as live rosin, live resin, and distillate each deliver different experiences. Live rosin and live resin will be more flavor-forward and strain-specific, while distillate remains popular for affordability.
  • Disposable vs. 510 carts: Another preference that divides vape consumers is disposables versus 510 carts. If you have a battery you love, 510 carts are often more cost-effective, while disposables offer convenience and portability.
  • Hardware quality: For some consumers, it comes down to the hardware they know they can rely on without clogging, leaking, burnt hits, and inconsistent airflow. If you don’t have enough personal experience, browse forums like Reddit or ask your budtender.
  • Flavor and terpene profile: Extract type and brand quality both affect individual terpene profiles and the flavor of each vape. You can easily check the label for terpene content, which can guide you toward more flavor-forward options. In general, live resin and live rosin products are truer to the plant in flavor, while distillate is typically more artificial, with added botanical terps.
  • Price vs. quality: If you’re puffing on a budget, you might be choosing lower-cost products, like distillate, or more cost-effective brands like LightSky Farms over 710 Labs. If you don’t want to compromise on flavor, live resin will cost less than live rosin due to the more intricate process of producing it without solvents.

Lume vs Nirvana Cannabis vs Elevated Exotics: Which Michigan Provisioning Center Is Better?

In Michigan, there are many provisioning centers to choose from, some of which you might be more familiar with than others, like Lume and Nirvana Cannabis.

Both have loyal customers and vocal critics, while Elevated Exotics has more recently become a popular choice among Michigan cannabis consumers and out-of-state shoppers.

So, which Michigan provisioning center is the better fit? In this guide, we’ll compare the factors that matter most to the retail experience.

Keep reading to compare products, pricing, rewards, and shopping experience across all three retailers.

Lume vs. Nirvana vs. Elevated Exotics: Comparison Table

Lume Overview

Best For: Rewards-focused shoppers looking for convenience, frequent deals, and a large statewide Provisioning center network.

Locations: 30+ throughout Michigan

Loyalty Program: Yes

Medical Sales: Yes

Notable Products: Jenny Kush, Gold Label Live Rosin, Rip Pods, Effect Gummies, BUZZN beverages

If there were any Provisioning center to be the CVS of cannabis, it’d be Lume. With more than 30 locations across the state, you can walk into almost any store and know what to expect in terms of selection and service.

Lume operates one of the largest retail networks in Michigan and primarily stocks its own house brands. With that comes a robust loyalty program, Cannabis Club, which rewards customers with points and exclusive offers.

Of course, being the convenience store of cannabis does come with a bad rep, too, with many consumers questioning whether product quality keeps pace with the brand’s scale.

At the same time, others appreciate the retailer’s popular in-house products, including Jenny Kush flower, live rosin vapes, and effect-specific gummies, for their consistency and availability.

If you’re searching for convenience, frequent deals, and a predictable shopping experience, Lume is a solid choice. Connoisseurs looking for a wider selection of premium or exotic products may prefer a smaller, more curated retailer.

Nirvana Overview

Best For: Budget-conscious shoppers looking for frequent deals, rewards perks, and a broad selection of products across multiple Michigan locations.

Locations: 9+ Michigan locations

Loyalty Program: Yes

Medical Sales: Recreational focus (verify if medical is available at any locations)

Notable Products: Dragonfly pre-rolls, Gold Crown products, Everyday flower, Loud Pax flower, Goldkine products

Nirvana Cannabis is often compared to Lume for the same reasons: its value-focused approach and multi-location appeal.

Unlike Lume, Nirvana operates nationally, with locations in Arizona, Illinois, Maryland, Ohio, and nine locations here in Michigan.

Across its locations, Nirvana focuses on delivering value through product variety and competitive pricing.

That means you’ll find a wide selection of flowers, pre-rolls, vapes, edibles, concentrates, and tinctures, all ranging in quality and generally offering a broader, less curated selection than a local dispensary like Elevated Exotics.

If you often shop for national brands or budget-friendly house brands, Nirvana is a viable choice, especially when taking advantage of its loyalty program, first-time customer deals, and ongoing promotions.

Otherwise, Nirvana may not be the best choice for connoisseurs. While consumers say the retailer offers competitive pricing, reviewers note inconsistent service and long wait times, especially at locations near the border.

Elevated Exotics Overview

Best For: Shoppers looking for a locally rooted Michigan provisioning center with deep roots in the Upper Peninsula, competitive pricing, community events, and a mix of value products and premium brands.

Locations: Escanaba, Republic, Menominee, and New Buffalo

Loyalty Program: Yes, Mile High Club

Medical Sales: No, recreational only

Notable Products: Elevated Exotics house flower, Ice Kream Hash Co. products, Light Sky Farms, FAVRD, Wojo edibles, Shattered Thoughts gummies, budget carts, infused pre-rolls, concentrates, and rosin products

For everyday consumers and connoisseurs, Elevated Exotics is a cannabis retailer that’s rising in popularity. Originating in the U.P., we operate three locations in the region and recently expanded into the Lower Peninsula with a location in New Buffalo.

What sets us apart is our local ties to the cannabis community, especially as a family-owned and woman-owned provisioning center.

In addition to curating an exotic menu featuring specialty products like live rosin and exotic strains, we stay connected to the community by hosting events like Summer’s End Smokeout (SESO) and others throughout the year.

With accessible pricing and a mix of value and premium products, Elevated Exotics appeals to consumers who want variety, a more personal shopping experience, and a retailer with strong local roots.

We also offer a rewards program called the Mile High Club, where you can enjoy daily deals, exclusive promotions, and birthday freebies.

However, one downside is that you’ll have a harder time finding a location, with only four stores currently operating in Michigan.

From budget-friendly products and house-branded products to Michigan craft cultivators like Light Sky Farms and Ice Kream Hash Co., you’ll find what you’re looking for and an unmatched shopping experience at Elevated Exotics.

Lume vs. Nirvana vs. Elevated Exotics: How They Compare

Now that you have a general idea of how Lume vs. Nirvana vs. Elevated Exotics compare, let’s break down the most important factors to the shopping experience.

Product Selection

When it comes to product selection and exactly what you’re looking for, every consumer will differ. With that in mind, Lume and Nirvana tend to stock more generic, nationwide brands that are budget- and beginner-friendly.

Being more corporate in nature, you can expect Lume to have a similar menu across stores, including the products and limited-edition brands it carries.

If you’re searching for unique products from small craft producers, exotic flower strains, or live rosin, Elevated Exotics is known for carrying a more premium selection.

As a family- and locally owned operation, Elevated Exotics is more in tune with the local cannabis community and specially source and curate a menu that offers quality and variety to suit different tastes.

Pricing and Deals

Other consumers are more concerned with pricing.

If this sounds like you, many shoppers note that Lume and Nirvana have frequent sales, like ongoing bundles, BOGOs, and daily specials.

Both retailers also typically offer a free product for first-time customers. In fact, most shoppers highlight shopping these stores for their deals rather than their selection.

If you’re shopping for a higher-quality selection, Elevated Exotics balances premium products with competitive pricing.

They also offer a loyalty club, daily and monthly specials, and a balance of budget-friendly and exotic, higher-priced items.

Shopping Experience

Shopping for weed legally can still feel new and uncomfortable, even for long-time users. That’s when some shoppers prioritize experience and general vibes when choosing one retailer over another.

On the one hand, Lume offers a big-box-type feel, like walking into the Walmart of weed. On the other hand, Elevated Exotics provides a more local, mom-and-pop style experience.

As for Nirvana, experiences seem to vary by location, but reviews mentioning long wait times and inconsistent staff knowledge are fairly common.

In the end, it’ll come down to personal preference. If you prefer a friendly staff who goes above and beyond, choose Elevated Exotics. If you want a quick, no-frills transaction and don’t care about quality, Lume might be your best bet.

Locations and Convenience

Now, some consumers will choose their provisioning center based on location or convenience alone. Here, Lume has every retailer beat, with more than 30 locations throughout Michigan.

Nirvana is also actively expanding its retail footprint, with stores scattered from Coldwater to Center Line and beyond.

Primarily concentrated in the Upper Peninsula, Elevated Exotics has the region on lock with 3 locations in Escanaba, Republic, and Menominee. Recently, we expanded to the Lower Peninsula, with a location in New Buffalo, too.

While less convenient statewide, Elevated Exotics is often treated as a destination provisioning center thanks to its curated menu and selection of premium products.

Loyalty Programs and Rewards

Last but not least, how do the loyalty programs of Lume vs. Nirvana vs. Elevated Exotics compare? To start, all three offer a loyalty program that allows shoppers to earn points on purchases.

All three retailers also offer birthday rewards, but that’s largely where the similarities end.

Lume’s Cannabis Club loyalty program provides VIP offers and member-only deals and has a well-developed system for tracking and redeeming points.

Nirvana’s locations offer loyalty rewards; however, promotions vary by location, as does program management. That means the program is best known for first-time promotions but offers fewer ongoing membership perks.

Elevated Exotics’ Mile High Club allows shoppers to earn up to 1,000 points for $25 off future purchases and offers exclusive promotions to members. Better yet, their points don’t expire and can be easily redeemed in-store.

Conclusion: Lume vs. Nirvana vs. Elevated Exotics

All in all, there are different reasons to shop at different provisioning centers. Some shoppers may shop for first-time discounts and ongoing deals, and in that case, Nirvana is a strong option.

Others may prioritize convenience or simply don’t mind mids; in that case, Lume fits the bill.

For those seeking a balance of premium products, competitive pricing, and the service of a locally owned retailer, Elevated Exotics is the best choice.
